April Results Round-up

April has been a busy month for some Cantabs crews, with races both on and off the Cam.  Pleasingly, there were several Cantabs wins at each event!

14th April saw some long-awaited sunshine for the Bedford Spring Fours and Small Boats Head.  Unfortunately, the sun was accompanied by strong, blustery winds, which made for interesting steering challenges, particularly for non-coxed boats!  Congratulations to the Women’s senior squad who came away with wins in the Women’s IM3 Coxed Fours, the both the Women’s IM3 and Masters B Single Sculls.  Cantabs crews placed second in four other categories.  Full results available here.

Back in Cambridge, the following weekend saw eight Cantabs crews racing in the St Radegund’s Mile.  The Poachers crew won Men’s Masters 8+, the senior women were the fastest women’s crew (racing as Women’s IM3 8+) and Rack’s Out won the Women’s Novice 8+ category.  The Men’s Novice 8+ were one of three crews initially tied for most closely predicting their time, being just one second off, but the prize was awarded to City as the slowest of the three crews.  Full results available here.

On 27th April, before the festivities of the Cantabs Annual Dinner, thirteen Cantabs crews raced in the Head of the Cam.  Unfortunately the settled weather had given way to showers, but if any Cantabs spirits were dampened, they seem to recover by dinner time!  The Women’s Seniors squad won the Women’s IM3 8+ category (in a time that also beat the IM2 entry), and Ulrike Bauer won Women’s Masters 1x (despite only making an ad hoc entry as she returned from a training scull beyond Bait’s Bite lock.  The Women’s Junior 14 4x+ recorded a convincing win over their local competition.  The “G-oar-geous” sixth-formers were just one second behind the winners of the Women’s Novice 8+ category, and a couple of Cantabs crews (Mixed Masters E 4X- and Mixed Novice 4X-) found themselves without any competition.  Full results available here.

Well done to everyone who raced in April, congratulations to the winners and the best of luck to all Cantabs competitors in forthcoming races: especially the Spring Head to Head, City Sprints, and Wallingford Regatta, next weekend (4th-5th May).
