Channel Crossing Record

Congratulation to Cantabs’ Dennis Roche and his team-mates who rowed across the English Channel on Sunday morning!  The eight-man team rowed a Cornish Adventure Gig from Dover harbour to the French coast in just four hours and three minutes, setting a new record for this type of crossing.

Dennis writes “Along the way we passed two others in the water attempting to swim the distance, had a fly over from plane who took some aerial photographs, and at one point were on collision cause with a massive container ship until it changed its heading to avoid us as neither of us could stop.”

The eight-strong team took it in turns to row, cox & rest. Here Dennis is rowing at bow.

The team are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  You can read more about their training on their blog, where a write-up and photos from the crossing will be added soon.
