Fun & fancy dress at Christmas Head

The last race before Christmas saw 24 Cantabs crews take to the water to race at Christmas Head, many racing in fancy dress, and coming home with 10 wins.

The juniors put in a particularly impressive showing, racing in pyjamas, as bees and ladybirds, and devils amongst others. They came home with category wins in J17/18 1x, J17/18 2x, W J15/16 4x, W J13/14 4x+, W J15/16 4x+ and WJ17/18 8+.

Masters crews raced well, with costumes including Santa hats, camels and Squid game. Their performances included wins in MasB 2x and W MasBCDE8+.

The Progression Squad were dressed up as Pudsey Bear to highlight Chris the Coast Walker’s walk along the coastline of Britain, which he has been doing for over a year now in the name of Children in Need. Chris is a cox of both the Progression Squad and Motley, and has so far raised nearly £30,000 and you can read more about his journey and support him via his website.

Elsewhere, there were sheep, a bobsleigh, turkeys, and tinsel galore for our Senior and Intermediate rowers who put in some good performances to win W Club 1x and Club 4x (in composite).

There were also some funky rigs, with the of the women’s half sweep/half sculling ‘sceep 4’ beating all other four-woman crews, and the mixed 8x+ enjoying the chaos of some crew members barely having ever sculled and their boat beginning to swamp as they crossed the start line!

Thank you Nordin Catic for so many great photos of our crews!
