Fastest W8+ at Fairbairns 2019

For the 8th consecutive year, Cantabs were the Fastest Invitational W8+ at the Fairbairn Cup. This year, with formidable opposition in the form of the Cambridge University Lightweights and the Russian State University of Physical Education and Sport, the Cantabs crew had a difficult time on their hands, particularly as the crew consisted of athletes able to race on a Friday lunchtime.

Chiara Avancini, Ellie Darlington, Emma Andrews, Katie Brown, Lindsay Hamilton, Clara Lloyd, Liv Hamilton, Maria Stroyakovski and cox Isabel Nimmo raced the course well despite only switching to eights rowing that week, edging out the Russians by 3 seconds and the lightweights by 7 seconds to finish as the fastest W8+. Their time saw them beat 5 college men’s 1st eights.

In the men’s 8+ event, a scratch Cantabs M8+ from the Senior Men’s Squad finished 16th overall, with the Aquaphobes’ Masters D crew finishing 36th out of 55 crews.
