Hazard: netting hanging down from Railway Bridge

18th January: Some of you may have seen that netting has recently been secured to the underside of the railway bridge. Unfortunately some of the netting has been damaged and is now hanging down close to the water surface, presenting a significant hazard to rowers. The Cam Conservators have liaised with Network Rail, who say they will deal with the problem “tonight”.

If you are out on the water this evening, please be extremely cautious in the vicinity of the railway bridge. The damaged netting is hard to see in the dark; crews out this morning stopped just before the bridge and drifted under at minimal speed to reduce consequences of possible entanglement. Please take care to ensure you don’t get tangled in the netting or have to make sudden adjustments to avoid it.
