Small boats wins at Head of the Cam

A number of Cantabs small boats raced at Head of the Cam on Saturday 22nd April, with the Senior Women’s Squad coming home with 5 wins.

Georgie Plunkett was the fastest W1x of the day, and Bailee Stratton the fastest W.NOV.1x.

A Cantabs vs Cantabs battle took place in W.NOV.2x, and saw Alice Brownjohn and Emma Dalrymple finish winners ahead of squad mates Cecilia Collins-Taylor and Hannah Stewart. The result was decided early on, however, after an overtaking men’s 4+ cut across too early on Ce and Hannah, crashing into them and forcing them to briefly stop. Ellie Darlington and Megan Lloyd-Palmer had no opposition in W.IM3.2x, but finished as the fastest W2x of the day, beating many women’s eights in the process.

The Masters C 4+ of Gill Cooper, Judith Weik, Sue Hakenbeck, Sue Waterhouse and cox Isabel Nimmo – winners of gold at the British Rowing Masters Championships in the C4- and the Vet Fours Head C4+ pennant last year – finished as the joint fastest W4+ with Peterhouse College.

Finally, a junior men’s crew from the Hills Road Sixth Form College won IM3.8+ by a convincing margin.

Cantabs also had entries in IM3.8+, NOV.8+, MasE.8+, W.NOV.8+, IM3.1x, W.NOV.4x, MasD.8+, MasG.8+, Mx.MasF.4x, Mx.MasC.2x, MasC.1x and NOV.1x. Unfortunately many of those crews didn’t have any opposition in their event.
