Henley Time!

Good luck to the Cantabs Men’s 2nd VIII as they race at Henley on Friday 22nd June in an attempt to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta’s Thames Challenge Cup.  They will be competing with eleven other crews, aiming to finish in the top four to gain a place in the main event next week (Wednesday 27th June and Sunday 1st July).

The Men’s 1st VIII pre-qualified for Henley’s Thames Challenge Cup on the basis of their performance at the Metropolitan regatta and are looking forward to their first race on Wednesday 27th June.  Updates on the progress of both Men’s Crews will be posted on the club’s Facebook site and final results will be posted to the Cantabs website.

W1 IV+ crew

W1 IV+ at Henley: (from L to R) Ailsa Benton, Julia Fischer, Claudia Catacchio, Sarah Allen (cox) and Stacey Hickson

At Henley Women’s Regatta last week, bad weather and fast stream conditions lead to the organisers to reduce the number of crews qualifying through the time-trials, so that they could stick to the racing schedule through the subsequent events.  Frustratingly, although they beat 15 other crews from a number of respected clubs, the Cantabs IV+ finished as the fastest non-qualifiers for The Lester Trophy.  Despite their disappointment, the crew made the most of the opportunity to experience the atmosphere (and mud!) of the regatta and enjoyed some banter and photo-opportunities, with umpire Matthew Pinsent.
