Many members of Cantabs have been saddened to hear of the recent death of Chris Lloyd, a well-known figure in Cambridge rowing over many decades. Chris, with his wife Debbie, set up the Free Press Boat Club, now the X-Press Boat Club, in 1978 from their public house of the same name. He rowed for many years for X-Press and then the Cambridge Veterans, and raced at many international events, making new friends wherever he went.

Chris was actively involved with the CRA and also had a close relationship with CUWBC where he coached in the 1980s and ’90s a number of College Clubs, particularly with Churchill where he was assistant boatman for many years and. He was a Vice President of the CRA.

Chris will be sadly missed by so many of us.

Chris’ funeral will take place in the afternoon of Friday 31st May: details are the “Cantabs RC – Members” Facebook group. If you are not a member of the Facebook group but would like details, please email secretary@cantabsrowing.org.uk for information.
