Congratulations to the two Cantabs junior girls' crews who raced at JIRR in Nottingham, representing the East of England.
In their first race together, the J16 2- finished 3rd in their heat to make a hotly-contested final, where they raced well to finish 5th.
The J14 2x had an aggressive start in their heat which saw them finish as clear winners, before putting in another performance in the final which saw them have clear water on the rest of the field before the 250m mark and finishing with a commanding lead to claim the gold medal.
Congratulations to both crews, as well as their coach Jon Winch who not only towed the boats back to Cambridge after the race but then immediately headed to the Cantabs annual dinner just in time to be presented with a well-deserved coaching award, and to accept the junior performance award on behalf of the girls' 2x.
One month later, there was another J14 2x result worth celebrating, as the girls raced at the Junior Sculling Regatta. Racing for their school, St Mary's, the girls had a margin of 23 seconds over the 2nd placed crew in the event.
Congratulations to the girls as well as their coaches, both Oli Frazer at St Mary's, and the team at Cantabs.
