HRR saw 3 Cantabs crews qualify in the Brit, Wyfold and Wargrave.
For the 2nd consecutive year, the Cantabs Senior Women qualified an 8+ for the Wargrave Challenge Cup. They are the only Cambridge women's club crew to have ever qualified for HRR, and one of only two crews from outside of the Thames to qualify for the event. In the first round they faced a crew from Sydney Rowing Club, Australia. Proving that you wouldn't travel half way around the world to race unless you were a fast crew, it was Sydney who came out on top.
The Senior Men raced well at qualifiers to earn one of only three qualification spots in the Britannia Challenge Cup in a competitive field. The draw was unkind, however, leaving them to race Hinksey Sculling School where 3 of them had been in the crew which made it to last year's final of the event.
The Wyfold 4- prequalified after their good performance at Marlow Regatta, drawing Shandon BC, Ireland. This was the first HRR qualification for the Cantabs crew, an achievement in itself, who finished 2nd to a strong Shandon crew who made it to 2 more rounds of the regatta.
The crews now turn their attention to training for Town Bumps, where the women will seek to defend the headship they have held since 2017 and the men will look to bump Nines again to regain the men's headship that they took last year (in advance of the 2021 racing, it was agreed that the results wouldn't carry over to 2022 due to covid, leading to a 'reset' for 2022).
