Town Bumps 2021 Day 4

Thursday saw history being made, as Cantabs achieved a 1-2 on the women’s side for the first time as W2 (Senior Women) bumped City W1. It’s the first time in 15 years that a club has done this. The day saw Cantabs climb another 11 places, more than double any other club’s total gain for the week, to finish +25 for the week overall!

Women’s Divisions

The top of Women’s Division 1 finally saw some action, as it was third time lucky for W2 (Senior Women) who bumped City W1 by the railway bridge. A strong start saw them take distance out of City sooner than on the previous days, with Isabel Nimmo’s steering helping W2 eat into the clear water ahead of them. Whilst W1 (Senior Women) had a controlled row over, keeping City no more than 2L behind them, W2 gradually reeled City in along the Reach, to rapturous cheering from their squad mates watching the action unfold behind.

Elsewhere in Division 1, W3 (Senior Women) and W4 (Senior Women) held the fort and rowed over. W1-4 were finally joined by their remaining squad mates as W5 (Senior Women) bumped Nines W3 at the top of Division 2, and as sandwich boat bumped Champs W2 to take them into Division 1.

There was also change in Division 2, as W9 (‘COGS’) bumped their way in after bumping Chesterton W3 at the top of Division 3 and St Neots W2 as sandwich boat. W8 (J15/16 Juniors) rowed over, whilst W6 (Junior Performance/Hills Road) bumped Nines W4 and W7 (Intermediate Women) bumped Chesterton W2.

In Division 3, there were bumps for all, with W10 (Intermediate Women) bumping Nines W6 and W11 (Hills Road returners) bumping City W8 and W12 (Progression Squad) bumping Isle of Ely W2.

The Cantabs women’s crews are +25 for the week!

Men’s Divisions

Men’s Division 1 saw M1 (Senior Men) enjoy a composed row over as Head of the River. Behind them, M2 (Senior Men) were bumped by Nines M2 and M3 (Hills Road returners) were bumped by City M2. M4 (Hills Road), however, bumped Nines M3 making it +3 so far for this crew. Tonight, they chase Chesterton M1 for blades.

In Division 2, M5 (Aquaphobes) rowed over and will be looking to bump (back!) into Division 1 tonight as they chase Champs M1. M6 (Coaches) were glad to have a less chaotic row than the night before, rowing over behind X-Press M2. There were some Cantabs-on-Cantabs crimes elsewhere in the division, with M7 (Poachers) being bumped by M8 (J15/16 Juniors) as the juniors benefitted from each race together as more experience as a crew.

In Division 3, M9 (Past Masters) and M12 (Invetereight) rowed over. M11 (Motley) were bumped by X-Press M5. M10 (Hunter) kept everyone on their toes, once again bumping Chesterton M3 who they were bumped by on Thursday but who they initially bumped on Monday! Who knows what Friday will bring?
