Saturday 17th February saw the 2nd leg of the Cambridge Winter League. At the first Winter League, Cantabs crews enjoyed wins in many categories, with multiple wins for squads such as the Senior Women and Hills Road.
The second leg saw the Senior Women finish as the fastest W8+ once again, and now lead the Women’s Championship 8+ by nearly 3 minutes. They also finished as the fastest Women’s Club A 8+ crew.
The 2nd fastest women’s crew of the day was Cantabs’ J18 Squad’s W8+, more than 20 seconds ahead of the 3rd fastest women’s crew. They now lead the W.J18.8+ by over 3 minutes. The J18s also enjoyed success once again in the W.J18.4x, which was the fastest W4x by 72 seconds.
In the boys’ event, the Hills Road boys finished as the fastest J18.4x, with the J18 Squad’s crew 2nd. The NOV.4x event was also won by a Hills Road crew, as was the Club B and Novice M8+.
Jack Goode continues to lead the Men’s Club A 1x , with Hadi Boukhatmi 3rd in the event. Andrew Morley was the fastest Men’s MasD 1x, and despite having to stop a few strokes into the race because of problems with her clams, the Senior Women’s Squad’s Georgie Plunkett finished as the fastest W1x by far.
There was a good improvement for the Intermediate Women’s Squad in the 2nd leg of Winter League. The W.MasCDE.4x overtook the lead of a Rob Roy/X-Press composite from the 1st leg, and their W8+ saw their training pay off by finishing as the fastest Club B crew by 15 seconds, allowing them to take Chesterton RC’s lead.
The Senior Men produced some good racing again, to finish 2nd in the Men’s Championship 8+ and Club A 8+ events. The Aquaphobes had a very good race, and extended their lead over the 2nd place crew in MasD.8+ (Cantabs’ Poachers).
Final prizes will be decided after the 3rd leg, which is on Sunday 24th March. Full results can be found here.
