On Tuesday 5th June, 7 Cantabs eights took to the water to take part in X-Press Head. This race aims to give competitors the opportunity to practice the full Bumps course uninterrupted, with crews allowed to begin from a standing start if they would like.
Town Bumps is the main focus for a number of Cantabs squads at the moment, seeing 6 of them enter as preparation for Bumps, along with an 8+ from the Senior Women’s Squad who are in their final preparations for Henley Women’s Regatta in 2 weeks’ time.
The Senior Women had a solid row to add to their collection of course records, including one set at Champs Eights Head 2 weeks earlier, breaking the previous record by 14 seconds despite having a last minute substitution.
There was also a win for the Hunter Crew, in the novice eights event. Dave Meredith said,
We overtook a crew from local motor sport firm Cosworth Electronics near the finish, which particularly pleased the Formula 1 fans in the crew!
The Aquaphobes finished as the fastest masters crew of the day, as they also add to their preparation for the British Rowing Masters Championships.
Other results included the Women’s Progression Squad and Racks Out finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the women’s novice eights. InveterEight and After Motley finished 5th and 6th, respectively, in the Mas8+ event.
