John Hale progresses at GB U23 trials

Last weekend, John Hale took part in the final round of the national squad trials, hoping to be selected for the European Rowing Championships or the World University Rowing Championships later this year. His performance in the lightweight sculling time-trial put him 12th, just qualifying him for one of the A/B semifinals. Unfortunately (not helped by wind conditions), John came last in the semifinal, but his time was fast enough to take him into the B final, where he fought off a challenge from Rupert Price from CULRC to come 5th.

This result was enough to see John stay at Caversham for the remainder of the week for further selection testing, and he is currently in the running for a lightweight coxless four to compete at one of the aforementioned championships later in the season.

For more information, see the British Rowing website’s report on last weekend’s trials.
