Regatta Roundup – Peterborough and Oxford

Building on successes at Sudbury, Cantabs crew raced at Peterborough and Oxford Regattas. A couple of members of our junior squad provided excellent write-ups:

Peterborough Regatta – by Eva Hill

During the hot weekend of the 8th and 9th of August, crews made their way down to Peterborough rowing lake for another lively regatta. On the Saturday crews raced the 1000m course from the stake boats at the very end, passing all the club gazebos, right to the finish opposite the many trailers. On Sunday rowers raced the 500m course starting from half-way down the lake.

Everyone from Cantabs enjoyed cheering their teammates on as well as crews from City of Cambridge and the Cambridge 99’s. The weather meant all the crews were again very glad of the shade brought by the new gazebo. Throughout the weekend Cantabs bagged several well-earned wins:
Mx.IM2.8+, NOV.4+, W.NOV.4+, W.NOV.2x, IM3.4x- and Mx.IM2.8+ (500m).  [The mixed IM2.8+ set new course records on both days].
Cantabs came a close second in the Victor Ludorum trophy for most successful visiting club at the regatta.

Oxford City Regatta – by Katie Lacey
On the weekend of 15th-16th of August some Cantabs crews went to Oxford City regatta. It was a very enjoyable weekend with lovely weather and good rows against some tough competition. Many people were able to go and cheer on other crews leading to a supportive atmosphere. Those who camped overnight had a lot of fun even though it was a bit cold. Overall though, it was a great weekend with some good races.

Winning crews included the senior crews Mixed VIII which took on very strong opposition to win the VIII sprint races, some lovely quart pots and a trophy for the clubroom. Millie and Eve won the IM3 2X on Satuday and Claire Connon won 2 pots in her adaptive class races. Well done to everyone who participated in this event, and thank you to Phil Gunning for organising and towing the trailer.

The senior squads would also like to thank Ellen Border and Helen Popescu for subbing in as coxes for the women’s and men’s IM3 and IM2 coxed fours.

The Mixed VIII maintains its unbeaten record with a win at Oxford!
