A and B finals galore at Nat Schools 2022

There was some fantastic racing for the Cantabs juniors at Nat Schools Regatta, with lots of B final qualifications from some competitive time trials against top competition including leading private school boat clubs from across the country.

William Woodard impressed to finish a fantastic 6th place in the Championship 1x A final, a lightweight racing against mainly openweight opposition including a former Junior World Championships medallist. William’s performance was all the more impressive considering some major equipment issues upon arrival saw him racing in a last minute loan of a brand new Wintech 1x thanks to help from the Oarsport representatives at the regatta.

Elsewhere, the WJ15 4+ were 8th out of 25 entries in the time trial, sending them to the B final which they finished 2nd in. Their time was faster than those of several crews in the A final. Their J16 counterparts finished 4th in their time trial, and were pipped to 4th in their semi-final, going on to comfortably win the B final.

The girls’ J18 8+ had very little preparation for the regatta due to important exam revision, but raced well throughout the day including a phenomenal race with Godolphin & Latymer in the B final.

The J16 girls’ 4x were a scratch crew and enjoyed the opportunity to gain some more race experience.

Thank you to the organisers for a great event, and to the parents and volunteers who supported the Cantabs crews on the day. Special thanks of course to Oarsport for saving the day with the 1x for William!
