Another women’s course record at Champs Eights Head

Sunday 20th May saw 7 Cantabs crews race on the Cam at Champs Eights Head, coming away with 2 wins and a course record between them. The race takes place just downstream of the Plough and finishes at the P&E, with crews given the opportunity to go from a standing start. Prizes were available for best start and best line around Ditton Corner.

The Poachers – winners of NOV.8+

The Poachers had a good race and were excited to win the novice 8+ category, finishing 26 seconds clear of the 2nd place crew from City of Cambridge. The Hunter crew had a good race themselves, and finished 3rd in the same event. The Women’s Progression Squad crew also had a good race, but unfortunately had no opposition in the women’s novice category.

Senior Women on their way to beating the course record

The Senior Women’s Squad crew finished with the fastest women’s time of the day, and in the process beat the course record that they had set last year by 9 seconds. This made them the proud recipients of a magnum of champagne for the second year running.

Hunter Crew

The masters DE 8+ event was hotly contested, with Cantabs’ Aquaphobes squad putting in 2 entries, with some athletes doubling up, racing as the Aquaphobes and Hydrophobes. In the end it was the Hydrophobes crew which came out on top, finishing 2nd and only 2s off the winner, and the Aquaphobes finishing 3rd. ‘After Motley‘ also finished 3rd in MasC.8+.
